LESSON 1

LESSON 2

Page 63 - A clarification: The pyramid at the top of the page is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Frank Conroy's pyramid is depicted in his essay in your purple story pack.
Page 66 - A rewording of the extra credit question: In "No One's a Mystery" the elapsed time is no more than five or ten minutes. Why did the author choose these 5-10 minutes and not the previous 5-10 minutes (or the following 5-10 minutes)? Why does this particular slice of time support the weight of a story?
Page 66 - A typo on the last line of question #3: There should be a "3)" before "a stranger ..."

LESSON 4

Page 84 - typo on the last line. It should be her, not his.

LESSON 5

Page 97 - Add these questions to your self-check: Does your story have a title? If asked, could you highlight your "problem" statement? Could you identify one character and highlight the four methods of characterization you have used?

LESSON 6

Page 105 - A rewording of question 1: Draw a timeline of scene and summary in "Gryphon." Mark off section of the line for each scene or narrative summary, labeling it with a keyword and identifying it as scene or summary. Each section marked off should represent how much of the story a particular scene or summary takes up. This story is predominately scene, but it ends in summary. How is this an effective ending?

Page 106 - A rewording of question 3: Describe the town in which you grew up, or a town in which you have lived for a significant period of time (10 or more years). Focus your description around a significant person or happening. Weave in local landmarks such as churches, shops, bridges, etc.
